The outlook of the Greek economy outlook is improving, while progress under the bailout program remains broadly on track. That said, future political stability cannot be taken for granted and might weigh on the ability to push through with reforms.

In November 2012, the Troika relaxed Greece’s budget and privatization targets and there was a deal to bring down the government debt. Although positive, we still believe a further debt restructuring is necessary to make the debt more sustainable.

Due to the self-defeating character of the huge austerity package, the Greek economy still experiences a deep recession while the government did not manage to continue narrowing the budget deficit substantially.

The Greek austerity and reform programme has been broadly successful in making a running start in 2010. For 2011 the programme is at a cross-roads as the distance yet to cover remains impressive, in terms of both budgetary consolidation and structural reforms.
